Child and youth protection is one of the core missions of every children’s hospital. That is why there is also an interdisciplinary child protection group at the Children’s Hospital Central Switzerland. The basis for this is the Child and Adult Protection Act.
The child protection group’s task is to recognise and investigate suspected cases of child or youth abuse or neglect. Depending on the situation, this may also involve taking action – always with the aim of protecting the child and enabling positive development. It is important to work together with the child and adult protection authority (KESB) in the patient’s local community.

The child protection group at the Münsterlingen Children’s Hospital deals with infants, children and adolescents who have become victims of physical or psychological abuse or sexual assault, or who are at risk of becoming victims.

The child protection group has an advisory role and does not release anyone from a duty of disclosure.

Victim Counselling Zurich is a state-recognised contact point for victims within the meaning of the Victim Support Act (VSA) and their relatives or trusted persons. With us, you will find support, counselling and guidance from a team of proven experts in a difficult situation.

The victim counselling service is the point of contact for people who have experienced an act of violence. This also includes traffic accidents caused by third parties. Have you had such an experience? If so, we offer you professional support, ensure your protection and uphold your rights. Our services are free of charge and flexibly tailored to each individual case. Our counsellors are bound to confidentiality and also provide anonymous assistance if requested. You are free to choose which victim support centre you use; it is not tied to your place of residence.
Our services are available to women*, men*, adolescents and children, regardless of their gender, age, sexual orientation or religion. Relatives of victims or people close to them can also take advantage of counselling.

LAVI stands for Loi fédérale sur l’Aide aux Victimes d’Infractions. The LAVI came into force on 1 January 1993.

A victim within the meaning of the LAVI and the CPP is any person who, as a result of a criminal offence, has suffered direct physical, sexual or psychological harm. Examples include bodily harm, rape, sexual abuse of a child, a traffic accident, a death threat, kidnapping or robbery.

It is not necessary for the perpetrator of the offence to be discovered, for his behaviour to be culpable or for him to have acted intentionally. Furthermore, it is not necessary to file a criminal complaint in order to meet with us.

The LAVI and the CPP guarantee special rights to victims of crime and their next of kin (the victim’s spouse, children and father or mother):

• Any victim may seek advice and assistance from an LAVI counselling centre in any Swiss canton;
• In criminal proceedings, victims have certain specific rights;
• In criminal proceedings, victims have certain specific rights; in the canton where the offence was committed, they can also claim compensation for the harm suffered as a result of the offence (material damage and/or non-material harm).

LAVI counselling centres offer a confidential and free service. They advise victims and their families, help them assert their rights and refer them to specialist professionals (lawyers, psychologists, doctors, etc.). Interviews are by appointment only.
